The FBC Women’s Ministry will host a Day of Service on Tuesday, September 23.

This church-wide event is part of a special emphasis called SERVE SEPTEMBER. Mark your calendar and make plans to SERVE with us! The six SERVE sites include:

  • Montgomery Police Department Headquarters and Fire Stations

CARING CENTER

Description: Serving and completing tasks under the direction of Rick Brenny, Caring Center Director

If you would like to participate in SERVE SEPTEMBER for the Caring Center but cannot physically serve that day, bring donations to Sharon Windham at First Baptist Church (305 South Perry Street) anytime during September.

Suggested items to donate include socks, underwear, diapers, canned goods, and peanut butter.

CHILDREN’S LEARNING CENTER

Description: Providing “happy” bags for the 13 teachers at the Children’s Learning Center as a THANK YOU for the tender loving care they give to the children at our CLC week after week. We hope to keep the cost at $10 per bag. We will also create a “blessing basket” for Kim Herbert, the Director of the CLC. Please sign up by giving your name and phone number. Additionally, please indicate whether you would like to contribute to a happy bag for a teacher or the blessing baskets. One thing everyone can do is write a note or card of encouragement and appreciation to accompany the bags or baskets. Sara will contact you with more detailed information once the sign-up form is completed.

CAFE AMERICANA

Description: TWO OPPORTUNITIES

  1. Provide snacks for the Cafe that morning. If you are helping with snacks, please bring them by 8:15 AM, as some students start arriving at 8:30 AM. Need four people to sign up to help with snacks. RachelAnn will contact you to determine which specific food item to bring.
  2. Volunteer at the Cafe by sitting and talking with the ESL students. Two volunteers are requested every 30 minutes. That will be eight volunteers total. Two from 9:30 to 10, two from 10 to 10:30, two from 10:30 to 11, and two from 11 to 11:30. Sign up by shift. You are, of course, welcome to stay for the whole morning as well. {This is the advice from Kelda Brenny (the one in charge of Cafe Americana) – when visiting with the students, ask good, simple questions and encourage each person at the table to offer a short answer. It’s a chance for these students to practice good English and hear it from the volunteers.}

FLATLINE CHURCH

Description: Two Tasks are available. *Each volunteer will need to bring a pair of work gloves.

  1. 10:00 AM to Noon – Landscaping of the Church Grounds – mowing/edging, trimming bushes, pulling weeds, blowing walkways, trash/debris pickup. *Each volunteer will need to bring a pair of work gloves.

  2. 2:00 to 4:00 PM – Trash Removal and Cleaning on the 3rd floor of their building

VOLUNTEER AT FLATLINE CHURCH

Description: Giving blood (takes approx. 30 minutes)

If you are unable to come to the church to donate but would like to give blood, LifeSouth has two donor center locations in Montgomery that you can go to: (1) 4139 Carmichael Road, 36106 and (2) 7044 Atlanta Highway, Suite 401, 36117. Open 9 AM to 7 PM on Tuesdays. There is also one in Prattville: 2457 Pinnacle Way, Suite H-101, 36066. Open 10 AM to 5:30 PM.

 

VOLUNTEER FOR LIFESOUTH BLOODMOBILE

Description: Volunteers at MOM will be sorting and logging patient files to send to records storage, reviewing medications for expiration dates (to ensure expired meds are pulled from the shelves), organizing medical supplies, and providing other assistance as needed to Molly Stone, Executive Director of MOM, and FBC member.

VOLUNTEER FOR MEDICAL OUTREACH MINISTRIES

Description: Providing lunch for 12-16 men who are part of their Certified Dads program. Food needs to be at their east location (address given above) by 11:00 am, as they will eat lunch at 11:30. {Special note – no pork dishes, please. Please sign up by giving your name and phone number. Megan will contact you as to what food and/or drink to provide.

VOLUNTEER FOR FIRST CHOICE

Locations: MPD Headquarters (320 N Riply Street, 36104); Fire Stations (1329 Fairview Avenue, 3305 Biltmore Avenue, 3950 Norman Bridge Road)

Volunteers Needed: 4 Team Captains, Unlimited Volunteers

Description: Kelley is seeking four “team captains” to coordinate efforts with the MPD HQs and the 3 MFD stations listed (one for each location). The goal is to flood the HQ and these stations with homemade baked goods (cookies, pies, cakes, cupcakes, brownies, Chex mix, etc.) and cards of appreciation and thanks on behalf of our church members. Mary Ruth Wolf and the GAs will make cards to go with the goodies, but others can also do so. The team captains will choose the times for these deliveries to each location on Tuesdays, September 23, and will get back to you with that information once you sign up by station. (If you would like to write a card or note to our Montgomery police and firefighters but can’t help out that day, notes can be dropped off in Sharon Windham’s box at FBC with Shirley at the front desk on Scott Street. Please turn those in by Friday, September 19.)
