THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30

Dear friends,

Overnight our church was attacked by an arsonist who attempted to set fire to several areas of our church building including our Sanctuary and historic Stakely Sanctuary. Montgomery’s first responders arrived quickly and minimized what could have been a catastrophic event. The damage varies (several pews destroyed and carpet burned in the Sanctuary, minimal damage to carpet in Stakely, smoke and soot throughout the church, and reception office completely destroyed and burned). There is an active investigation currently into who would have done this, and I encourage you to pray for this person who would seek to damage what the Lord has done for 192 years in the heart of downtown Montgomery.

On this last day of September, recall our Scripture memory verse that we have spoken and memorized alongside one another each time we gather: “For God has given us a spirit not of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.”

We will meet on Sunday. I’m not sure at this time what it will look like, but I will share an update as soon as we have a plan together. We’ll be taking the Lord’s Supper together as a faith family as we join with millions of other believers on Worldwide Communion Sunday to celebrate what Jesus has done on the cross to save us of all of our sins and secure eternal life for those who trust in Him.

You are loved, prayed for, and so deeply appreciated!

God is good.
All the time.
