We Need Jesus and Each Other!

We each have a story to tell! Here are living testimonies of how God has worked in and through the lives of our FBC families. To share your story, click here.

Robin Yeargan, RN  |  Montgomery, AL

My name is Robin Yeargan and I am a nurse at Baptist South Emergency Department. I was honored to be a member of the trauma team caring your Stuart and your youth group Saturday, August 21. I know why I am a nurse and that's because God uses me in instances such as this. I was Stuart's original nurse when he came in from Air Evac. I was able to pray with him when he needed that reassurance. God not only comforted Stuart but he blessed me during that time. I also took care of Cody and Hunter. I was very impressed with your church family and the kindness and respect they showed me and the other nurses. Your physician family is also awesome. So many of them came to the ER and the were not on call. My prayers continue to be with your church family.

After many, many years of moving, I have come to believe that our time in a new place can be largely defined by our church experience. Suffice it to say, Montgomery is the dearest place we've gotten to call home. VBS was being held our first week in town, and we hauled the kids over and got them signed up. One week later, we knew we'd found our new church home.

FBC Montgomery is special. Pastor Jay is a tremendous man of God, and it quickly became obvious to us that honoring Jesus in every word and deed is one of his greatest desires...for himself and for us. Every week, Sunday morning and night, we were taught, encouraged and challenged, and sometimes we even got our toes stepped on! Attending FBC is like being part of an intense, wonderful, discipleship training camp. It seemed that every Sunday night, our congregation was either commissioning a group for an up-coming mission trip or listening to those just returned recount amazing reports of God's provision and mighty acts. FBC is filled with extremely capable people, and we've never been part of a church where folks made better use of their talents and abilities toward building God's kingdom.

Even though we moved to Montgomery for what we thought would be one year, the congregation and staff quickly embraced us and got us plugged in to active service. Stephen taught adult Sunday School and RA's, and I was privileged to serve in the music ministry. Our children were lovingly taught in Sunday School, RA's, GA's, children's choirs and the nursery, and two of our children gave their hearts to Jesus here! Being involved in small groups helped us make friends and feel like we belonged. Our church family loved and supported us through the birth of our fourth child and a long deployment for Stephen. Our one-year assignment happily turned into three, and we feel like we've left family behind.

It was on the recommendation of a friend from a previous assignment that we visited First Baptist Church, Montgomery. Within minutes of being with God's people there, we were convinced that this was the church where God would have us serve and be fed during our time at the War College. In every segment of church life — choir and orchestra, Sunday school, Wednesday night activities, mission trips — we were welcomed with open arms and invited to participate. Although we did not have children in the Children's Department or youth group, we saw the evidence of quality programs and observed workers who were committed to helping the young ones of the church grow in the knowledge of God and in service to Him. So we pass on to you our recommendation for your worship and growth in the Lord while in the Montgomery area. Connect with First Baptist Church. You will be blessed!

The Gorter Family

After moving to Maxwell AFB, we wanted to get plugged into a church as soon as possible. We tried several churches in the area but did not feel God had led us to our church home. We joined the first Sunday we attended First Baptist Church of Montgomery because we knew this was where God had placed us for the year. Our kids have been involved in the Mission Friends, Girls in Action and the Royal Ambassadors. We have joined a great adult Sunday School class and have gotten involved in the Nehemiah Center Community Ministry. Whenever moving to a new community, it can be difficult to find a support network.

During our second month here we were involved in a car accident. By the time we got our children safely out of the car and onto the side of the road, several families from FBC had stopped to offer their help. We soon realized that God had a support network in place for us long before we knew it.

FBC Montgomery has been a blessing to our family. Pastor Jay provides insightful leadership as he preaches God's Word, and the entire staff is helpful, friendly, and facilitates an environment of servanthood.

When I first visited First Baptist Church Montgomery, I was imminently expecting our third child, and had moved to Alabama a month before my husband with our two preschoolers to settle the house before the baby arrived. Needless to say, my hands were more than full! I was warmly received and welcomed into a Sunday school class, which I later joined. My children were plugged into wonderful Sunday school classes with teachers who quickly became acquainted with them and began shepherding them in Christian ways and engaging them in Bible-based activities. All three of our children love to go to church. I quickly began to realize that FBC Montgomery was unlike any church I had ever previously been a part of. Our transition was both joyful and seamless. The ministerial staff quickly knew me and the children by name, and three staff members even visited me in the hospital after we welcomed Wheeler into the world before our family even officially joined the church. In fact, Wheeler was enrolled in the nursery at FBC Montgomery before we were discharged from the hospital! In addition to Sunday mornings, we look forward each week to Wednesday night supper and prayer meeting. It is a time of fellowship that has helped us cultivate deeper Christian friendships, and it keeps us connected to and focused on Christ. I could go on and on - we love MOPS and children's choir too. In just a few short months, we will move, and I wish we could take FBC Montgomery with us. We have grown spiritually both as a family and as believers in FBC Montgomery's watchful care.

Like most military families, we've moved frequently and faced the common challenge of meeting new friends, hunting for a place to live and getting familiar with new surroundings. One of the other challenges we've faced with every move is finding a new church home. We've been blessed to find First Baptist Montgomery and the tremendous people that make up this body of believers. If you're looking for a place to plug into, experience true worship and know Christ more deeply, grow in His grace and show Him to the community and the world around you, then come to First Baptist and see a vibrant, growing and strong church. If you've got a special talent that you can share in worship, the choir and orchestra has a place for you.If you're looking to get involved in community or global missions, this church sends a team off on a mission trip almost once a week. If you're looking for children's programs, there are age-appropriate classes for every girl and boy in your family. If your teenager needs Christian friends and the influence of committed and caring leaders, a staff of motivated ministers are here waiting for you. If you're single, just married, with kids or without kids, there is a group of people in your same life position ready to encourage you. First Baptist Montgomery is not some club for the self-righteous or a "holy huddle" that focuses exclusively on itself. This is a place of grace and mercy and there's no better place for you and your family than First Baptist Montgomery.
