Years ago I read a powerful story about a young man who went off to college. He was a sincere Christian and very active in his church. However, when he entered the University, instead of standing for Christ, he began blending in with the seductive culture of college.
After being in school for about a week, His mom made a surprise visit to deliver a batch of his favorite cookies. To her great dismay, she observed that her son's two roommates had decorated their dorm room with pornographic posters. The mother was shocked to see pictures demeaning women and transforming them into objects of lust and denigrating the humanity of a person created in the image of God. This wise mother was sad but she didn't blow a gasket. Instead, she went home and constructed a plan. The next weekend, she took her son a poster that had been in his bedroom for much of his life. It was a picture of Jesus on the cross, dying for our sin to secure salvation for those who would follow Him in faith. That Mom made one request, "Son, please place this poster of Jesus over your bed in the dorm because you need a visual reminder of His love for you and others." The young man humbly complied with his mother's appeal. After a few weeks, she made another "cookie delivery" and visited her son's dorm room. The poster of the crucified Christ was there, but the pornography was gone.
God's Word tells us in Ephesians 5, "Walk as children of light. Learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Do not participate in unfruitful deeds of darkness, but expose them. There should be no obscenity, foolish talk, or course jesting among you. Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead and Christ will shine from you." Friends, pollution and darkness will seek to defeat and distract you and prevent you from accomplishing God's purpose. Wisely counterattack by letting King Jesus arise in your daily life and allow His purity and light to guide you to victory!
