The Perfect Comeback!

Winston Churchill was known for his sharp wit. Once in a conversation with a lady friend, she jabbed at Churchill by suggesting, "Winston, if I were married to you, I would put poison in your coffee." He instantly responded by saying, "Nancy, if I were married to you, I'd drink it!"
On countless occasions, we have wanted to create the perfect comeback to settle a score or put a sparring conversationalist in their proper place of humiliation. But, the Bible tells us that the perfect comeback is not a sharp retort, but surprising kindness. God's Word instructs us to return good for evil. When someone slaps one cheek, turn the other. Christ coaches us to pray for those who have hurt us (Matthew 5:39-44).
The next time you want to construct God’s perfect comeback, try activating 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; and in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” When someone speaks to you sharply or delivers a painful blow, follow God’s advice in crafting a Christ-honoring response by:
