Connecting Leads to Awakening!

Jesus prayed this specific request for His children, Father, may they be one so that the world might believe.” (John 17:21) The Lord wants us to be connected to Him and to each other. Our Heavenly Father prizes unity. The devil is a divider because division discounts our witness. The evil one constructs barriers, but God’s Spirit creates bridges.

In Jesus’ last instructions to His followers, He explained, “You will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea, and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) The empowering Spirit of Jesus is like electricity. Electricity cannot travel over a broken line. When the body of Christ disconnects, the Spirit’s power short-circuits. I am convinced a prelude to the Great Awakening in our world will be the reconnecting of the Body of Christ. We tend to magnify the issues that divide us instead of amplifying the core truths that unite us. When the Body of Christ sets aside minor differences and reconnects at the foot of the cross, then we are positioning ourselves for a great outpouring of God’s empowering Spirit which can bring massive Spiritual Awakening. Therefore, God calls us to be His intentional agents of reconciliation. God reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18)

For seven years, I served as a pastor in the Washington, D.C. area. There were not many evangelical churches in our region. Washington is a very secular environment and I quickly learned that anyone who could authentically declare, “Jesus Christ is my Lord” was my friend in faith and Kingdom partner. That person might have a different view on baptism, the Lord’s Supper, church polity or prayer language; regardless of those minor differences, we connected because of our foundational commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is wise to magnify the enormous truths that unite us instead of the smaller issues that divide us. As our society grows more secular and hostile to authentic evangelical Christianity, we must deconstruct needless barriers and reconstruct empowering bridges.

In the same way it saddens parents to see their children fussing and fighting, our Heavenly Father must be grieved when His children hurt each other over trivial disagreements. Just as parents reward children who facilitate harmonious relationships and a resulting productive family, our Heavenly Father favors bridge-builders over troublemakers!

My Kingdom Partner, determine right now that you will serve as God’s agent of reconciliation in your relational world by extending forgiveness, sharing kindness, breaking barriers and building bridges because our connecting brings God’s awakening!
