Crazy Excuses for Refusing to Wash

The older I grow the more convinced I am of this simple truth: We need Jesus and each other! God’s Word explains, “For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us…that we may live together with Him. Therefore, encourage one another and build up one another.” 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11
Sadly, many people embrace the lie of self-sufficiency and feel like they do not need Jesus or the body of Christ. Isolationism creates the risk of making a person an iceberg who floats in a cold sea of loneliness and selfishness.
Let’s amplify God’s truth with a humorous metaphor about not connecting to Christ and His Church camouflaged in the title: “Reasons Why I Never Wash.”
The application arises like the morning sun which comes to burn off the fog of flawed thinking. Most excuses for not connecting with Christ and His church reflect a misunderstanding of God’s deep love and our death-generating sinfulness. Some people seem to be allergic to the Lord because they enjoy their sin and not want to risk experiencing God’s conviction so they create excuses for disconnecting. But God declares, “They are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20) When you stand before God in eternity, all excuses will instantly evaporate. Now is the time to develop a real relationship to your Redeemer that will give you security, stability, and productivity. As the poet said: “Making excuses will never suffice to cover the stain of your sin; Jesus provided the washing we need to cleanse us without and within.”
